Description: refers to a precious stone found in Persia (now Iran), much prized as a gem, of a sky-blue to apple-green colour, almost opaque or sometimes translucent, consisting of hydrous phosphate of aluminium (OED).
VARIANTS: turquois, turcois, turquoisen, tursqurijen, turquoyen, turquoys.
TYPES: (1) verduree turckoos, green turquoise; (2) trouwe turquois, loyal turquoise (?).
